An Augmented Reality Supported Rack Guidance System in Space Flight

Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) can be used to enhance the quality and reliability of tasks executed in miscellaneous environments. This preliminary paper describes the use of AR support in the Columbus space laboratory. Tasks prepared by the ground team will allow the space crew to be lead through there work with the support of AR guidance. The aim of the project is to develop and evaluate a "Rack Guidance System" to support a Space Crew during operations on the BioLab Space module. Findings from this development will be used to take a more general approach for a system used in multiple / different similar circumstances.
